Aafke Portena of Monkton passed away peacefully with family by her side at Stratford Rotary Hospice on Wednesday July 26th at the age of 86. Beloved wife of the late Willem-Jan Portena whom she married in 1959. Loving mother of Mike & Theresa Portena, the late Bettina & Henk Schuurmans, and Rick & Ingrid Portena. Special Beppe of Joanne & Brendan, Gina & Jordan, Ryan & Lindsay, Marco & Zoé, Jim & Kate, Tom, Eric & Romy, Lize & Andrew, Emily & Brodie, Carmen & Kiel, Kristen & Brett, René and great-Beppe of 9. Fondly remembered by her extended family and friends in the Netherlands and Canada. Predeceased by her parents Nammen and Harmina Faber. Relatives and friends will be invited to share their memories at Bethel Christian Reformed Church, Listowel, on Sunday July 30th from 6 – 8 p.m. The funeral service to celebrate Aafke’s life will be held at Bethel Christian Reformed Church on Monday July 31st at 11:00 a.m. Interment in Elma Centre Cemetery, Atwood.
