Ronald Charles Burniston Shelley of R.R.2, Gorrie, passed away at Palmerston Hospital on Sunday, October 23, 2022 in his 89th year. Husband of Carol (Wright) Shelley.  Father of Mr. & Mrs. Steven Shelley of Alberta, Diane & John Scherer of Guelph, and Sandra-Lynn Shelley of New Hamburg, and grandfather of Nicole.  Brother-in-law of Allan & Miriam Wright of Orillia, Arlene Scott of Whitby, and Irene & Josh Atkinson of Alberta.  Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Mr. & Mrs. E.J. Shelley, parents-in-law Robert & Evelyn Wright, brothers-in-law James Scott, and Ross Wright, and by his niece Karen Wright. Ron was a farmer all his life.  He was a Shorthorn cattle breeder for over 70 years, a Past President of Grey Bruce Perth Huron Shorthorn Club, and a beef cattle and swine judge.  He also worked 10 years for Quality Swine as a service technician.  Ron was a Huron 4-H leader for over 35 years, and a member of 4-H Elgin beef club and Junior Farmers.  He was an avid hunter and angler, played saxophone at Port Stanley Stork Club, and was an auctioneer where he donated over 35 years to the Moorefield charity sale. He was a Very Worshipful Brother with the Fordwich Masonic Lodge and past Chief Chaplain of his district, and was a Lay Minister at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Palmerston.  Ron coached minor Pee Wee hockey, and also helped as a referee at the local hockey arena, was a member of St. Thomas and Kurtzville curling club, a founding member of Wallace Optimist Club, a member and past president of Fordwich Seniors Young at Heart Club and Listowel Club, a member of Howick Turnberry Fall Fair Association, Huron- Perth Zone President of Senior Association, and won 2016 Ontario Senior Citizen of the Year award.  Ron loved to tell stories and was a real jokester.  Visitation will be held at the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. with a Masonic Lodge Memorial Service at 6:45 p.m. The funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Palmerston, on Thursday, October 27 at 1:30 p.m. Memorial donations to Palmerston Hospital, St. Paul’s Anglican Church, or Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. Online condolences may be left at www.hardyleefuneralhome.com
