Joyce Helen Weber of Ayton died peacefully at University Hospital-London Health Sciences Centre on Tuesday, April 27 th in her 71 st year. Born on December 1, 1950 in Owen Sound to the late Frederick and Helen Davenport. Joyce performed many vocal, piano, and viola selections in community performances, at the Kiwanis Music Festival in Owen Sound, and as a proud member of the Viola section in the Georgian Bay Symphony in the 1970s. Later in life, Joyce acted as Choir Director and Organist for St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hanover, Trinity Anglican Church in Durham, and Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ayton, where she was an active member of the Women of Faith. Joyce bestowed a love of music to her children and to her students throughout her teaching career. Joyce was actively involved in 4-H and Junior Farmers in Ontario. In her 4-H career, she completed over 50 life-skills and agricultural projects in Grey County. She was proud to receive the title of the 1969 Grey County 4-H Queen. Joyce participated in many provincial, national, and international conferences in the area of home economics. She was proud to be a Life-skills and Plowing Club leader with the Ayton 4-H Club and was proud to be the coach of the 1999 Gold For the Gold Provincial Champion team. In Junior Famers, Joyce was the first female recipient of the Australia-New Zealand trip in 1973, which gave her the opportunity to travel the world with her sister. Family involvement with Junior Farmers was the key to the success of winning the Junior Farmers Provincial Curling Championships in 1971. The biggest prize she won in Junior Farmers was winning the heart of her future husband, Carl. Joyce completed a teaching career that spanned 25 years in the Grey County and Bluewater District School Boards of Education with a focus on Kindergarten, Primary, and Special Education. She was a trustee for Southwest Grey with the Grey County School Board from 1985 to 1994 and acted in the role of Vice-Chair for several years. Joyce treasured the opportunities to reconnect with friends she met through her involvement with the Ontario Plowmen’s Association as a past plowing competitor and coach, daughter of a past Provincial Director, and spouse to the 2009 OPA President. She was proud of her rural roots as she would share glorious stories of pig scrambles, showing beef cattle in competitions, selling eggs, and her love of agriculture while farming alongside Carl and her children. Survived by loving husband of 45 years, Carl. Dear mother of Dr. Sarah Weber and Alexander Jones of Tiverton, Heather Weber of Kincardine, and Erich Weber of Ayton. Joyce is fondly remembered by her siblings Keith and Carol Davenport of Owen Sound, Murray and Patricia Davenport of Lakefield, Audrey and David Medcalf of Aurora, Lloyd and Hilda Davenport of London, and Brian and Susan Davenport of Owen Sound. Loving sister-in-law to Thomas and Joanne Weber of Normanby Township, and Leonard and Amy Weber of Carrick Township. Proud aunt to her many nieces and nephews and their families. She is predeceased by her parents, Frederick and Helen Davenport, and her parents-in-law, Wilfred and Iva Weber, and her nephew, Ward Weber.
