Marie Catherine (Basler) Seiler-Linden of Listowel passed away at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Monday, November 30, 2020, in her 90th year.
Wife of the late Jack Seiler and the late Bill Linden. Mother of Terry & Debbie Seiler of Listowel, and Steven & Julie Seiler of Komoka. Grandmother of Rebecca Seiler of Whistler, BC, Nickolas & Kait Seiler of Listowel, Melissa & Tim Kopal of Delaware, and Scott & Siobhan Seiler of Komoka, and great-grandmother of Ainsley Kopal. Sister of Jackie Morrisey of Kitchener, John & Alice Basler of Elmira, and Tom Basler of Listowel.
Predeceased by her daughter Christine Seiler, sisters Teresa Basler, Eileen Huck, and Patricia Basler (in infancy), and brothers Jim Basler, and George Basler.
Marie, aka “Nan” to most of us and many of our friends, was a very proud, independent and “Oh So Strong” woman. Her faith was her guiding light and life, which she continued to share with us all.
Having grown up with nine siblings and eventually marrying her childhood sweetheart, Marie and Jack began their own family of five before his very premature death. Marie, single-handedly, raised her three children while continuing to run the business that she and Jack built, in 1957, known as “Jack’s TV Centre”.
Marie was a very community oriented business owner and took great pride in becoming president of the Woman’s Catholic League. She was also President of the Zonta Club of Listowel and was instrumental in starting the “Zonta Lane” at the memorial park. In 2007, Marie humbly accepted the honour of the “Inaugural” Inspiring Woman Award, after being nominated by a very close friend.
Marie was fortunate to have had another great love in her life, marrying Bill (papa) while visiting Haiti. They travelled widely together to many countries, Caribbean Islands, and shared their passion of working on cruise ships. The two enjoyed their condo in Puerto Rico, where many memories were made and shared while vacationing with family and friends.
As an expression of sympathy, Marie’s wishes were donations to the North Perth Community Hospice, which would be greatly appreciated by the family.
A private family service will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Friday, December 4th, with Rev. Fr. Vargees Devas officiating.
Interment in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Hesson.
