Spence, Lilian (Age 100, Listowel)
Published on 13/10/2020
Lilian Victoria Spence, formerly of Listowel, passed away peacefully at Kincardine Hospital on October 12, 2020 at the age of 100 years.
Born in Finnie, Saskatchewan on August 14, 1920, Lilian was the youngest of seven children born to Jim and Elsie (Addis) Stilborn, and she shared many stories of the life she enjoyed growing up on Sunny Bank farm.
After the war, she made her home in Listowel, Ontario, with her husband, Bruce, who predeceased her in 1975. Here they raised their four children Brian (Bev), Bill (Bev), Virginia, and Peter, to whom she was a devoted, loving and fun Mum and whose example, laughter and zest for life will be missed.
She was the proud Noni to Joelene (Matt) and their three kids, Sloan, Will and Mia; Jeremy, David (Graham), Emma (Andrew), and Iain.
Lilian loved entertaining and the parties at 250 Winston were of epic proportion, whether she was hosting friends or her children’s friends. She lived life to the fullest, travelling extensively with Bruce, was a pretty darn good golfer and curler, and was always up for a game of bridge (two bits on the corner), but her happiest times were those spent with family.
Thanks to the staff at Livingstone Manor, Listowel for the deserved love, respect and comfort given to Mum for two years after leaving her home of 61 years, and to Trillium Court and the Kincardine Hospital for their devoted care to her during this past year while she was a resident of Kincardine.
A private family service will be held at Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel, with a Celebration of Life to be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice in her memory. Mum would like that.
