Betty Dow, 97, of Mitchell passed away in the peaceful tranquility of Huron Hospice on Wednesday, September 30, 2020.
Beloved wife of the late Mervin Dow (2000). Dear mother of Carol Ann Scott and Brian Dow (Patsy). Loving grandmother of Christopher Scott (Ania), Kailey Dow (Dale Hopf), Tara Matte (Shane), Nevin Dow (Lisa), Carrie LaCroix and Tracy LaCroix. Much loved “GG” of Lila, Logan; Marek, Olen; Charlie, Fiona; Seth, Sy, Sage; Emily; Jordan, Hayley. Dear sister of Dorothy Howell (Mervyn) of Yorkshire, England. Dear sister-in-law of Mary F. Dow. Also surviving are her many nieces, nephews and their families.
Predeceased by her son-in-law John Scott (2013), parents Marwood and Millicent Harper, sister Joan Harper, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Elmer Dow, Velma Doupe (Lorne), Wilma Butson (Jack), Gladys Allen (Joe), Margaret Miller (Russell) and Roger Dow.
Betty was born in Yorkshire, England. She met and married Mervin during WW2 and came to Canada as a war bride in 1946. The couple farmed together for 40 years west of Cromarty retiring to Mitchell in 1986. She was always very involved with her church and the community. She enjoyed participating in and watching many sports. Over the years she decorated wedding cakes for numerous brides in the community. Betty always kept busy. She donated many articles of knitting to various organizations and crafted many beautiful keepsakes for her family.
