West, Merle (Age 80, Mildmay)
Published on 23/6/2020
Millissa Merle (Reynolds) West, age 80, passed away in her home peacefully June 20th, 2020.
Born May 9th, 1940, only daughter to James Edward and Fannie Laura Reynolds in West Gwilliambury Ontario. Sister to Lloyd and Jim. Ed insisted they call her Merle as he was bound and determined no daughter of his would be called Millie. Little Merle was born during the 2nd World War, at home on the farm. These were troubled times with rations for anything made of steel. Diaper pins would rust and it was very difficult to purchase anything. Life on the farm gave everything a growing child would need. Food was grown and the butter was churned.
Growing up in farm country Merle was surrounded by many cousins, Aunts, Uncles and neighbours. Life wasn’t easy, and she wasn’t fond of farm chores.
In 1958, while working in a diner in Bradford, a persistent young gentleman from Holland Landing set his sights on young Merle. She wasn’t going to have anything to do with him, but he persisted and would not go away. Merle agreed to go on one date and one date only. Soon love grew. Cecil and Merle were married May 9th, 1959. Their love continued to grow stronger and so did the kids.
They remained married for 61 years sharing good time and bad.
During these 61 years, Merle spent her time caring her children and always there for her grandchildren.
She loved gardening, crocheting and feeding the hummingbirds.
Merle leaves behind her loving husband Cecil Roy West, 6 children, Paul, Wendy (Garland McAlpine), Virginia (Victor Rabson) Heather (James Sara/John Young), James (Wendy) Ann Marie (Doug Anderson), with 18 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
Your journey on this earth is complete and you will now watch over from above. We love and miss you now, forever and always.
Merle privately rested at the Greg Roberts Funeral Home in Mildmay, Ontario for immediate family only.
The family ask for any donations to go to Ronald McDonald House.
Celebration of life will be July 18th, 2020.
Don’t cry dear Grandma loves you.
