Published on 22/5/2020
Floyd Carl Johnston, of Kincardine, passed away at Brucelea Haven, Walkerton, on Thursday, May 21st, 2020 in his 84th year.
Beloved husband of Geraldine Johnston (née Geddes) for a wonderful 63 years.
Dear father of Rick Johnston of Port Elgin, Larry (Donna) Johnston of Kitchener, Cindy Fair and Garry Johnston both of Kincardine.
Remembered by grandchildren Colby, Teaghan, Lyndsey, Jaqui, Kayla, Cory, Madisyn and Matthew.
Missed by brother Bob (Marilyn) Johnston of Ripley and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Predeceased by parents Fred & Jean Johnston (née Gaunt), brother Allan Johnston, sisters Lois Johnston and Freeda (Brian) Bailey.
After various other early jobs, Floyd worked on the lake freighters before marrying Gerry, then owned/operated Floyd’s taxi in Kincardine for 16 years while they raised their family. After selling the taxi business, he worked at the LCBO, the Kincardine Davidson Centre, and eventually several years hauling the mail for the Kincardine region to and from Kitchener.
He made good use of his early mechanical training maintaining his own vehicles and many other items. He was always ready to help anyone in need. If he couldn’t fix something, he’d fabricate a solution. In his spare time he enjoyed camping with friends, tinkering with things in his garage and excursions like the Barrie Flea Market.
Floyd loved spending time with his grandchildren and always had a special touch with pets.
A private memorial service will be held.
Final resting place, Kincardine Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Kincardine Minor Hockey Association (KMHA) would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
