Long, Bruce (Age 94, Atwood)

Bruce Long of Atwood, peacefully on Monday, November 4, 2019, at the age of 94. Bruce was a life member and Past President (1970-71) of the Lions Club of Atwood and a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award and the Helen Keller Award for his 55 years of outstanding service. In his retirement, Bruce enjoyed woodworking, playing cards and helping his children and grandchildren renovate their homes.
Beloved husband of Gertie (Scholl) Long with whom he would have celebrated 70 years of marriage with on November 5. Loving father of Douglas, Barry and Lynda, Karen and Bruce Smith, Wayne and Jan, and Kenneth and Brenda. Special grandpa of Laurie and Gerry Henderson, Bryan Long and Shannen McFadden, Derek and Laura Smith, Shelley and Matt Sessions, Courtney and Eric Hopkins, Nichole and Kris MacDonald, Jenna Long and Landon Moseson, Trevor Long and Christine Ladd, Jordan Long, Riley Long and great-grandpa of 15.  Fondly remembered by his brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Fred and Marj Scholl, Maxine Scholl and many nieces and nephews. Bruce was the last surviving member of his family being predeceased by his parents William and Mabel (Peters) Long, sisters Mary and Alex Robb, Mildred and Mervin Mayberry, Hazel and Jack Harris, and brothers Fred and Margaret and Charlie and Norma.
Relatives and friends are invited to share their memories at the Brenneman Funeral Home, 141 John Street, Atwood on Wednesday, November 6 from 4 to 8 PM. A memorial service to celebrate Bruce’s life will be held at the Elma Memorial Community Centre, Atwood on Thursday, November 7, 2019, at 3 PM with Pastor Brian Hymers officiating. Reception to follow. A family interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery, Milverton prior to the service. 
As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to Listowel Memorial Hospital Foundation or Atwood United Church would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to Brenneman Funeral Home, Atwood.
