Gordon William BUTT, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, and cousin to a large and extended family, an avid volunteer in his community, and our friend, on July 14, 2019. Father of Jacob Butt, wife Nyree, of New Denver, B.C., and grandfather of 2. Brother of Gerald and Bernie Butt of Colpoys Bay, David Butt and Edda West of Winlaw, B.C., Eleanor Butt of Harriston, and Mary Evelyn and Bill Stevens of Petawawa, and remembered by his nieces and nephews.
Born in Goodwater, Saskatchewan, the oldest of five children born to Ruth (Thackeray) and Lloyd Butt, Gord grew up on a farm in Palmerston. He spent his 20’s and 30’s working a variety of jobs to earn enough money to travel. His travels included catching rides on freight ships across the world, and riding his motorcycle through Africa.
In 1974, a visit to his brother David brought him to New Denver, B.C., where he became the handyman many relied upon. Gord was known for his donations and his many hours volunteering for various local societies.
The family is grateful for the care he received from the health care team as well as all his many friends from the local community. His passion for gardening, his love of Sandon and its history, and his practical sense and determination will be revered and sorely missed.
A celebration of his life was held at the Silverton Gallery in B.C. A family service will be held on Saturday, October 26th, 2019, with interment in Harriston Cemetery.
As per Gordon’s request, donations to Silverton Gallery Society appreciated and may be made through the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston.
