Schenk, Rita (Age 89, Hanover)

Rita SCHENK (nee Kahl), of Hanover, peacefully on Sunday, June 16, 2019, just a few weeks short of her 90th birthday. Born in Normanby Township on July 14, 1929, to the late Charles and Mary (nee Liebold) Kahl on a farm outside of Clifford. In 1951, Rita married Bob Schenk, a man from the big town of Ayton. As well as her loving husband of 67 years, Rita is survived by her son Dale and Carol Schenk of Guelph and daughter Debbie Schenk of Hanover, granddaughters Laura and Daniel Armstrong and Caitlin and Dan Mombourquette and great-grandchildren Aubrey and Bennett Armstrong all of Guelph. Fondly remembered by her brother in law Don Hooper of Toronto and nieces and nephews and their families. Predeceased by her sister Eileen and Ivan Porter and her twin sister Ruth and Harold Luft and sister in law Jean Hooper (nee Schenk).
Rita was a loving wife and mother and enjoyed entertaining in their home in Ayton as well as at their trailers at Silent Valley Park and Nettle’s Island in Florida. She was a long time member and volunteer at Knox Presbyterian Church in Ayton and later at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Hanover. She enjoyed singing in the church choirs and in the Silver Threads Choir together with Bob as well as square dancing with the Happy Twirlers.
Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Visitation held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Sunday, June 23, 2019, from 1 until 4 PM. A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, June 24, 2019, at 11 AM, at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Hanover. Reverend Bonnie Sutherland officiating. Inurnment in Union Cemetery, Ayton. Arrangements entrusted to Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover.
Rita’s family truly appreciates the compassion and care given to her during her stay in the hospital by Drs. Heerema, White and Eckensweiler and the many nurses who went to great lengths in her care and comfort.
Memorial donations to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Home and Community Support Services – Day Away Program and the Hanover & District Hospital Foundation would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
