Kelsea Ballerini announced on social media that her dog Dibs died after battling cancer for several years.

“My sweet dibs went to doggy heaven yesterday,” Ballerini wrote in the caption alongside a slideshow of tender photos of the country star and her beloved pup, sharing that Dibs spent his final days in his backyard surrounded by loved ones.

Ballerini adopted the dog in 2015 and named her 2016 No. 1 hit, “Dibs,” after him.

The song made her one of only five women to reach No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay with their first two charting singles, and the first to accomplish that feat in 15 years.

In August 2024, Ballerini revealed Dibs had inoperable heart cancer.

“There are no words to articulate his role in my life. I couldn’t have done the last ten years without him, and he will always be my soul dog.”

Ballerini called being Dibs’ dog mom “the greatest gift of my life.”
