Eric Church just shared his classic Taylor Swift story on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”.

Back in 2006, Eric was dropped as the opener for Rascal Flatts’ Me and My Gang Tour, and he was replaced by a 16-year-old Taylor Swift, who was fresh off her debut single, “Tim McGraw”.

“My first major arena tour, I was invited to no longer be a part of . . . I actually found out about it online, that I had been replaced by this blonde-haired singer. She had a song called ‘Tim McGraw’.”

And Taylor reached out to Eric after it happened.

“She was like, ‘Hope there’s no bad blood, because I love what you do.'”

And Eric joked that she owed him her first gold record.

Funny enough, it only took a few weeks until Taylor kept her word.

At a festival soon after, Taylor handed him her very first gold record. It said, “To Eric, thanks for playing too long and too loud on the tour. Sincerely, Taylor.”

Pretty cool memento. But Eric didn’t even get to keep it. The record now lives in the Country Music Hall of Fame.
