What A Radio DJ Once Told Lainey Wilson
Lainey Wilson was in Nashville for years before she became famous. So, I’m sure she had her share of awful meetings with people in the music industry.
But there’s a story that she told Tracy Lawrence on his podcast back in 2022, that really might take the cake.
She said, “We went to this one radio station, and I had my guitar on my back . . . and we go up to [the] room and he said, ‘You should have just left that guitar in your car. I don’t want you to play for me.’ . . .
“I’m like, ‘I’m gonna fight this man at some point.'”
The DJ then played her song through his 1995 computer speakers. Quote,”So he cranks it up . . . you can’t understand a dang word. And then he leaned forward in his big ol’ chair and said, ‘Lainey, you’re just not good.'”
He then told Lainey that he hoped she wouldn’t get all sad and start crying. But before she left the meeting, she told him, “If anything, it just makes me want it that much worse.”
