McLean, Helen (Age 89, Seaforth)

Helen Grace McLEAN of Seaforthpeacefully at her home, after a brief illness, on Thursday March 21, 2019  in her 90th year.  Beloved wife of the late Edison “Ed” McLean (2009) for 51 years.  Cherished mother of Heather McLean.  Dear sister of Jean Dewar of Atwood.  Remembered by several nieces and nephews, her “twin” cousin Shirley Buchanan and several other cousins.  Also missed by the Belles of St. Mary’s Nurses and lifelong friends.  Predeceased by her parents Ina (McKay) & Elgin Dewar, sister Aletha Struthers, brothers James & John Dewar, brother in law Percy Struthers, sister in law Margaret Dewar, and nephew Brian Struthers.  Helen was a proud graduate of the St. Marys Hospital school of nursing, Kitchener class of 1951.  She nursed at Victoria Hospital in London until 1953 when she spent a year nursing in Calgary and Edmonton.  In 1955 Helen graduated from UWO in Nursing Education and returned to teach nursing at Victoria Hospital.  She loved nursing and teaching the nursing students.  Helen had to give up her beloved career due to brittle diabetes.  Helen had type 1 diabetes and was on insulin injections for 60 years.  Helen was also a life member of the UCW at St. Andrews United Church Kippen, and enjoyed being a 4H leader. 

There will be no visitation.  A celebration of Helen’s Life will be held at the Egmondville United Church, 26 Kippen Road, Egmondville, on Wednesday March 27, 2019 at 2 p.m.  Interment at Exeter Cemetery, Exeter, Ontario.  As expressions of sympathy memorial donations to Egmondville United Church, or the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides.  Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Falconer Funeral Homes, Clinton.  Messages of condolence for Helen’s family may be placed at www.falconerfuneralhomes.com
