Kayne West Under Fire: Says Salvery Was A Choice
Kanye West caught major heat during a sit-down with TMZ, where he said that slavery was a choice. He said: “When you hear about slavery for 400 years, for 400 years? That sound like a choice. You was there for 400 years, and it’s all of y’all? We’re mentally in prison. I like the word prison ‘cause slavery goes to direct to the idea of blacks. Slavery, Holocaust, Holocaust is Jews, slavery is blacks. So, prison is something that unites us as one race. Blacks and whites as one race. We’re the human race.”
There is also an online petition asking Adidas to drop his sneaker line.
It says, quote, “Kanye West has a right to free speech, and he has the right to spout lies and misinformation and misplaced opinions . . . but we as consumers have the right to fight back against this type of dangerous propaganda.”
In a British TV interview, Will.I.Am said his heart was broken by Kanye’s comments. He added, quote, “That statement was one of the most ignorant statements that anybody who came from the hood can say about their ancestors.”
And he said, quote, “I hope [he’s not saying that] to raise awareness to sell a record and some shoes.”
Kanye West also seems to have had “fake tweeted” a Harriet Tubman quote.
There’s no evidence the activist said the quote, which reads, “I freed a thousand slaves. I could have freed a thousand more if only they knew they were slaves.”
Eve is also weighing in on Kanye West‘s controversial comments. The Talk host slammed her fellow rapper on Wednesday’s show.
“Every time I watch these clips, I get emotional… it is so disrespectful,” she said on the talk show. “I can’t understand how a black man that was born on the south side of Chicago can have these ideas. I can’t understand… his mother, may she rest in peace, was an African-American Studies professor. I cannot understand this.”
