Sorry Harry Potter fans but it looks like you may have been pronouncing a character wrong this whole time.

Author J.K. Rowling has just set the record straight on Twitter regarding the villainous ‘Voldemort’.

It should actually be pronounced “Vol-de-MOR,” not “Vol-de-mort.”

That means for the past 8 movies, fans, actors, and directors have been butchering Voldemort’s name.

It all started quite innocently with a tweet from Potter fan Michael Lucero, “One piece of Harry Potter trivia I always forget to mention: the “t” is silent in Voldemort, according to @jk_rowling.”

To which Rowling herself responded that the French style was correct but not without adding that she thought she was “the only person who pronounces it that way.”
