First it was “The Sound of Music”, then “Peter Pan”.

Now NBC has announced that its next live musical will be “The Wiz”, the adaptation of Frank L Baum’s “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz”.

It will air on December 3rd and is in partnership with Cirque du Soleil.

It will then travel to Broadway for the 2016-17 season.

No cast has yet been announced.

The 1975 stage production for The Wiz won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical but the 1978 film adaptation, which starred Michael Jackson as the scarecrow, was a flop when it was first released
