Introvert, Extrovert, or…Ambivert?

Published On August 4, 2015 | By Shannon Adams | Shannon Adams

Usually people can be classified as either extroverts or introverts. Extroverts are outgoing, and introverts are…not. Well now social psychologists, behavioural scientists, and business experts say there’s an overlooked category called ambivert.
Here’s how you can tell if someone is an ambivert:

– He/she is moderate in mood.  An ambivert is not overly expressive or overly reserved.
– He/she is socially flexible.  An ambivert is comfortable in social situations or being alone.
– He/ she is skilled at communicating.  An ambivert  is intuitive about when to listen and when to talk.
– He/she is adaptable.  An ambivert can change his/her approach to fit the situation.

Of course I wanted to see what I’m “classified” as, since I can be very social but also like to have “alone time”.  You guessed it, I’M AN AMBIVERT!!  You can see what you are by going to danpink.com.

I was raised in Mount Forest, and I was that kid who loved public speaking competitions and singing...Weird, right? I wanted to be the next Barbara Walters, so I went to school for media. I was fortunate to get hired at CKNX Radio while on summer break from university, as the Summer Events Coordinator (Summer Cruiser). I remember telling my parents, after one of my first days as the Cruiser, that doing radio was the most fun and something I felt I was really meant to do. After graduating from Ryerson Polytechnic University, I worked at Global Television in Toronto doing a variety of jobs off and on air, as well as at Skywords Traffic doing traffic for a handful of radio stations every weekday morning. After two and a half years, I decided to change things up and go to teachers college, and I started teaching high school in February of 2001. I have been teaching off and on for 12 years, with breaks to have two beautiful children, who are the loves of my life (along with my husband of course). I have also been back at CKNX Radio off and on since 2008, and am loving every minute of it. What could be better than listening to music and talking, and getting paid for it?!
