Kenny Rogers – A “Natural” Talent

Published On July 18, 2015 | By Jeff Norgate | Jeff Norgate

His face is as familiar as his voice.  It has been said he can read over the lyrics of a song, then sing them like an old story.  His music has crossed from Psychedelic Rock to Pop to Country, as his adaptable styles seem to be endless.  He has been a session performer for Mickey Gilley and Eddie Arnold.  He has over 120 hit singles, and numerous awards for his work.  In 1966 he joined the New Christy Minstrels as a singer and double bass player.  That association lasted a few years, but when Rogers wanted to go in another direction, he ended up leaving the group.  Have a listen as Kenny remembers leaving the Minstrels and starting, “The First Edition”.  KRogers
