When you hear the name, “Johnny Paycheck”, you think of his biggest hit, “Take This Job and Shove It”. Just about everybody has thought that about their own job, and maybe that’s why the song connects so well.  His real name is Donald Lytle,  he performed under the name of “Donny Young”, but he changed it to Johnny Paycheck in 1964.  He was a bass and steel guitar player for George Jones.  Paycheck became friends with Willie Nelson when they both played in Ray Price’s band, “The Cherokee Cowboys”.  As a country “Outlaw”, Paycheck along with Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard became major stars during the 1970’s.

Join me next Saturday, July 4, for more about Johnny Paycheck and some great music too.

Saturday mornings with Jeff Norgate, only on CKNX!
