As a teenager, he listened to Gospel music, and not much else, until a friend introduced him to Gene Watson, John Anderson and Hank Williams Jr.
Alan was hooked. He started a band after high school, then at 27, he and his wife Denise moved to Nashville where he hoped to be in music, full time.
He started in the mail room of the Nashville Network, and eventually met Glen Campbell. With some help from Campbell, Al was signed to Arista Records.
He has become one of the most popular Country music performers with 35 number one songs, and another 38 in the top five.
