Steve played bass in his Dad’s band, and he was quick to learn his craft.  Dottie West hired him when he was just 17 as her bass guitarist, and he played on her single, “Country Sunshine”.

Chet Atkins hired Steve to play bass in his band, and toured extensively in 1979.  He signed with RCA records, and in 1981 Steve had his first of ten number one hits, “All Roads Lead to You”.

Steve went on to win four Grammy Awards, became a member of the Grand Ole Opry, he was inducted into the Music City Walk of Fame in Nashville in 2008 and the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame in 2011.
