Tracy was studying business at Texas State University, and was singing with a local band known as “Rimfire”.   In 1992, he sang a cover of, “Your Cheatin’ Heart” at a mall recording studio, and that recording earned Tracy a spot in a talent contest, and a contract with MCA records.

In 1993, “Holdin’ Heaven”, became Tracy’s first number one single, but he had to wait almost a decade to reach the top spot again.  He has charted more than 30 hit singles, with eleven reaching top ten.

A song from his second album, “No Ordinary Man”, was not intended to be released as a single, but it became the CMA Song of the Year in 1995.  “Keeper of the Stars” is one of his best known songs.
