From Rock To Country

Jimmy Stokely founded a band in Richmond Kentucky in 1963.  Two of his band members were barely teenagers and had to get permission from their parents.  “Jimmy Stokely and the Exiles” was formed and set out to play rock music. They shortened the name to “The Exiles” in 1966, then simply, “Exile” in 1973.

Their move to a “Country band with a strong Southern Rock flavor”,  began in the late seventies, and they hit the charts with, “Kiss You all Over” in 1978.  More hits followed with several reaching number one.

Janie Fricke, The Forester Sisters and Alabama each recorded songs written by Exile, and all of them reached top ten.

Exile received eleven nominations for Vocal and Instrumental Group of the Year from the ACM and the CMA.

Join me next Saturday, February 15 at 9:20, for more with Exile!
